From Broken Instruments to Lifelong Passions: Screening of “The Last Repair Shop” at The Conrad!
From Academy Award-winning directing duo Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers, The Last Repair Shop grants access to the nondescript warehouse in the heart of downtown Los Angeles in which a dwindling handful of devoted craftspeople maintain over 80,000 student musical instruments, the largest remaining workshop in America of its kind. The Washington Post describes acclaimed composer and cellist Paul Wiancko as “a restless and multifaceted talent who plays well with others”—a reference to his substantial collaborations with diverse artists like Max Richter, Chick Corea, Norah Jones, Arcade Fire, and The National. In 2023, he was named Director of Chamber Music at Spoleto Festival USA. He also recently became the cellist of the internationally celebrated Kronos Quartet, in addition to his role as a founding member of the viola and cello duo Ayane & Paul and Owls, a quartet-collective dubbed a “dream group” by The New York Times.
