This amazing Carlsbad museum is home to hundreds of vintage instruments and specialty exhibits. A walk through the museum’s chronologically organized, 100-year history of music takes center stage.
Take note of the wonderful history and happenings at this interactive museum, a tribute to the love of all things music!
Located behind the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, this hidden gem is home to hundreds of vintage instruments and specialty exhibits held throughout the year. Live concerts at the museum feature famous international and national musicians as well as local talent. Visitors can also pick up and play instruments like keyboards, drums and guitars in a vibrant hands-on area.
A walk through the museum’s chronologically organized, 100-year history of music takes center stage. In five galleries, guests learn about the rise of pianos and reed organs in the 1890s; that patriotic songs kept morale high during World War I, and that the energy of jazz helped drive the “Roaring Twenties”; that the production of musical instruments stopped during World War II; that rock ’n’ roll spurred guitar sales in the 1960s; and that the mid-1980s technology of digital music has again renewed the music industry. Each gallery includes audio and video clips and actual instruments (a 1908 mandolin, for example) played in the respective time periods.
Tours of the galleries can be self-guided or for groups, led by docents. Either way, visitors will leave singing a happy tune! Music enthusiasts needing an encore will love the benefits of museum membership, including unlimited, free admission, discounts on concerts and programs and merchandise at the museum store, as well as invitations to special member-only events.
An instrumental part of the community, the museum also rents its space for events such as award ceremonies and corporate events. Demonstrating its commitment to music education, the museum offers teachers use of the venue for student recitals. Students can enjoy performing for their family and friends in a professional and musical atmosphere.
