Solana Beach
Visit this friendly coastal city, stretching two picturesque miles north from Del Mar. Long-time locals can be found playing at sandy seaside coves, enjoying crafty food establishments, shopping at art galleries and import furniture shops, and taking in live concerts and live theatre.
Known as an ocean lover’s paradise, Fletcher's Cove Beach Park anchors the city, and is perfect for kayaking, swimming, fishing and surfing. The recently renovated park also has a playground and picnic space for hanging out and enjoying the view.
A few blocks to the east, visit the famous Cedros Design District. A fun place to stroll and shop, Cedros Avenue is lined with art galleries, home decor imports, boutiques, spas, cafes, restaurants, and the popular Belly Up Tavern, a prominent live music venue. Sundays find locals at the farmers market, held at the district's south end.
For Broadway-quality plays and musicals, visit North Coast Repertory Theatre, a leading arts organization producing seven diverse main stage plays and a special holiday show each year. Also catch the Rep’s Variety Night shows ranging from comedy nights to musical entertainment.
For an easy way to reach the city, take the scenic north-south COASTER commuter train, which deposits riders directly at the station at 105 N. Cedros Ave. The COASTER serves eight stations between Oceanside and downtown San Diego. Or, from North County Inland, take the east-west SPRINTER hybrid rail, connecting Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido, serving 15 stations along the Highway 78 corridor. Then connect to the COASTER. Visit GoNCTD.com for fares and schedules.
