From Academy Award-winning directing duo Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers, The Last Repair Shop grants access to the nondescript warehouse in the heart of downtown Los Angeles in which a dwindling handful of devoted craftspeople maintain over 80,000 student musical instruments, the largest remaining workshop in America of its kind.

Meet four unforgettable characters whose broken-and-repaired lives have been dedicated to bringing so much more than music to the schoolchildren of the recording capital of the world.

A screening of the film will be followed by a Q&A with one of the film’s producers, Josh Rosenberg.

Acclaimed for his stellar stage presence and joyous musicianship, cellist Sterling Elliott is a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and the winner of the Senior Division of the 2019 National Sphinx Competition.

Already in his young career, he has appeared with many major orchestras and is fast becoming a favorite on the summer festival circuit.

This season, he received a Sphinx Medal of Excellence, the highest honor bestowed by the Sphinx Organization, awarded to artists who early in their careers demonstrate artistic excellence, outstanding work ethic, a spirit of determination, and an ongoing commitment to leadership and their communities.

At age 12, Yura Lee became the youngest artist ever to receive the Debut Artist of the Year prize at the Performance Today awards given by National Public Radio.

Since then, her record-breaking and award-winning achievements have only continued. She’s a multifaceted musician as both a violinist and violist, and one of the very few who is equally virtuosic on both instruments.

As a soloist and a chamber musician, her performances cover various musical mediums, captivating audiences with music from baroque to modern and enjoying a career that spans three decades and takes her all over the world.

The Washington Post describes acclaimed composer and cellist Paul Wiancko as “a restless and multifaceted talent who plays well with others”—a reference to his substantial collaborations with diverse artists like Max Richter, Chick Corea, Norah Jones, Arcade Fire, and The National.

In 2023, he was named Director of Chamber Music at Spoleto Festival USA. He also recently became the cellist of the internationally celebrated Kronos Quartet, in addition to his role as a founding member of the viola and cello duo Ayane & Paul and Owls, a quartet-collective dubbed a “dream group” by The New York Times.
