Take in bold and provocative works by this downtown San Diego professional theatre company, inspiring audiences for more than four decades. Performances are held at the Lyceum, a state-of-the-art theatre complex below Horton Plaza. The REP’s 43rd season continues with “Aubergine” (Jan. 24-Feb. 17), a touching story of love, family and the healing power of food. The curtain next rises on “Hershey Felder, Beethoven” (Feb. 21-March 24) with Felder bringing the great composer to life through the eyes of Dr. Gerhard von Breuning, who as a boy, spent Beethoven’s last years by the Maestro’s side. Works include “Moonlight Sonata,” “Pathetique Sonata,” and selections from the 5th and 9th Symphonies. Capping off the season is “Sweat” (April 18 – May 12), about a Pennsylvania steel town and its neighborhood bar that turns into a battleground where race, class, family and friendship clash.
