On Aug. 2, hear Schumann’s immensely popular and fanciful piano quintet and fantasy-pieces bookend Janáček’s quirky miniature piano concerto, based on imaginary animal encounters, as well as the U.S. premiere of fairy-tale pieces for violin and piano by our season’s composer-in-residence, Thomas Adès—one of the most important and celebrated composers, pianists, and conductors today (and La Jolla Music Society's music director’s favorite living composer!) This La Jolla Music Society SummerFest concert explores the seemingly magical alchemical processes regularly used by Elizabethan composers to turn simple musical material into gold.
