Head to Downtown Escondido for a Taste of El Salvador!
June 27, 2022
Enjoy authentic Salvadorian fare at this downtown Escondido restaurant known for its tasty pupusas, El Salvador’s national dish. The pupusas are thick, round corn cakes cooked on a hot griddle stuffed with fillings like beans, cheese, pork, zucchini, shrimp, and loroco. Pupusas are typically accompanied by curtido (a spicy cabbage slaw) and tomato salsa. Choose from a range of these handmade treats as an appetizer or enjoy as a main course. Those with adventurous appetites are invited to try the Pupusa Loca: a large 10 inches in diameter pupusa with all the ingredients — almost a pound of toppings and cheese!
Cuscatlan’s other Salvadoran specialties include grilled steaks and chicken, succulent sauteed shrimp, Salvadoran tamales and fried plantains. The “More” part of the menu is extensive! Offerings include delicious square deep dish and specialty pizzas made with fresh ingredients and a variety of pizza sauces; creamy soups served with rice and tortillas; antipasto, Greek and Caesar salads; a long list of oven-baked sandwiches — everything from ham to Philly cheese to veggie — and various pastas.
Those with a sweet tooth who haven’t eaten too many pupusas should also try the wonderful empanadas de leche — banana pie filled with milk cream. The restaurant also offers refreshing house margaritas and a fine selection of beer and wine.
If you’re craving a true Central American culinary experience, or are interested in trying the authentic flavors of Salvadoran cuisine, Cuscatlan is the place for you. Aside from the fantastic food, the friendly staff offers excellent service with gratitude for your patronage.
