Trapeze High

Soar through the air at this Escondido-based school and training facility offering classes for people of all ages, abilities and skill levels, plus exciting circus camps for kids. Participants are introduced to all aspects of flying, familiarized with the apparatus and terminology of the trapeze, and taught to perform basic tricks. Once the necessary skills on the ground are perfected, and students feel comfortable, they are strapped into a harness, taken up to trapeze level, and ready to swing into action — always with safety lines, and a net below!

At Trapeze High, safety is the priority. No one at Trapeze High flies without a net and all new students are required to wear safety harnesses.  At least three fully-trained staff operate the rig, and they stay with students every step of the way.

Trapeze classes are offered year-round. Weekend classes for all levels run at 10 a.m. and noon. Levels include:

• All Levels Trapeze – Learn to fly under the coaching of trained instructors. A ground school, safety lines, a body harness, and netting allow students to fly through the air with the greatest of ease. For people of all ages and abilities.
• Advanced Trapeze – For the school’s Frequent Flyers and “Flight Club” members, this is a dedicated class to helping you move along at your own pace through the world of flying trapeze. Work toward goals, inspiring progress and joy!
• Tricks to Catch – This is a class dedicated to flyers who want more time to throw tricks across to a catcher. Come ready with some tricks in mind, and the school’s stellar instructors will help you fill in the blanks, and provide the catcher.
• Out-of-Lines Catching – For students who throw tricks without safety lines, this class is for you! An out-of-lines catcher is placed up in the catch trapeze, and will work with you to improve your trick, practice working in hands, returning to the bar, remounting, and whatever else you can dream up.

Kids ready for exhilarating adventures will love Kids Summer Circus Camp, running weekly in July. Budding performers learn confidence, teamwork and circus skills. Dates available in 2024 are: July 8-12; July 15-19; July 22-26. All sessions run 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday and campers have the opportunity to perform in a circus show for their friends and family at the end of each session. In the expanded Youth Circus Program, kids can enjoy 10-week sessions in fall, winter and spring. Each session runs every Saturday for 10 weeks.

Can’t commit to a full session? Drop in for $39. Kids learn skills such as juggling, wire, tumbling, handstands, acro, lyra (also known as the aerial hoop or ring), silks, trapeze and more from 10 a.m.-noon Saturdays.
