The Grand Tea Room

Find yourself steeped in the British tradition of Afternoon Tea at this downtown delight gracing Escondido’s Grand Avenue. The venue’s elegant tea service takes place three times per day, Tuesday through Saturday, against the backdrop of Victorian decor, floral tea sets, and lacy tablecloths.

Just past the entrance, stroll into the neatly adorned gift shop, filled with fine China tea sets, demi spoons, tea towels, stylish hats, jewelry and of course, a wide variety of loose-leaf teas. Find the perfect gift for any occasion.

The gift shop then gives way to the inviting salon, where relaxing arm chairs, gleaming crystal chandeliers and lovely real roses on each table prepare patrons to enjoy the tea experience. Various afternoon tea packages are offered, all accompanied by a choice of over 40 gourmet loose leaf teas (crème brulée tea or chocolate strawberry tea anyone?). Sip away while savoring tea sandwiches, scones, shepherd’s pie, quiche, fresh fruit and petite desserts served on glass triple-tiered towers. Tea pots are generous in size and you can switch flavors. Everyone loves a fine cup of tea — kids included — so it’s no surprise that the venue offers a Children’s Tea for ages 10 and under as well.

Can’t commit to the two-hour tea service? The Grand Tea Room menu offers an a la carte option plus garden-crisp salads and both soup and savory of the day. Also, reservations are highly recommended at least a week in advance although walk-in guests can often be accommodated.

Inspired patrons are welcome to dress for the occasion, complete with fancy hats and gloves. (The shop also has a complimentary selection of hats should you wish to borrow one for your tea time.) Just remember: pinkies up!
