Round up friends and family and head to this important cultural center, dedicated to Olaf Wieghorst, a Danish-born American cowboy and famed artist who lived in El Cajon for over 40 years. Wieghorst created exquisite portrayals of the 19th-century American West, along with Native American Indians, cowboys and settlers. The museum’s two galleries display many of his paintings, watercolors and sketches. In 1998, the original home of Mae and Olaf Wieghorst was moved to the museum grounds and designated as a historic site by the city of El Cajon. The home, including a beautiful cactus garden, is open for public tours. Retrospective books, gourds, jewelry and prints by local artists are available in the gift shop. Open every Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and tour groups by appointment. wieghorstmuseum.org
