Transplanted New Englanders hankering for a a bowl of creamy clam “chowda” or a “lobstah” roll will find themselves right at home at Bite of Boston, a charming eatery serving three San Diego County locations.
Almost every menu item is flown in straight from the East Coast twice a week, with the aforementioned lobster roll attracting patrons for miles. It features healthy chunks of Maine lobster, mixed with celery and mayonnaise, stuffed into a butter-grilled Frankfurt roll.
Bostonians Bob and Hope Major opened the restaurant five years ago in a small shopping center in Rancho Bernardo (pictured above). With a menu celebrating the Eastern Seaboard, like the melt-in-your-mouth pastrami sandwich, a Philly cheesesteak and Ipswich fried clams (with bellies), the Majors knew they had a winning recipe. They have since expanded to locations in University City/La Jolla and Pacific Beach.
Other menu items not to be missed are the fish and chips made with fresh North Atlantic haddock, lobster bisque with sherry, served in five sizes as is “Wicked Awesome Chowda,” the 8-inch-long Fenway Frank and of course, a side of Boston baked beans.
Those with a sweet tooth can even buy a container of Fluff, a Boston favorite.
To toast the three-year anniversary of the University City/La Jolla location, which opened in March 2011, and the five-year birthday of the Rancho Bernardo establishment, Bite of Boston invites the public to stop by any of the three stores on Friday, March 14, Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16. Sign up for chances to win fun prizes such as BoB logo caps, T-shirts and gift certificates. And leave room for cake!
