Coronado Island
This seaside resort community across the San Diego Bay boasts classic hotels, a compact, lively little downtown and gorgeous white beaches. It offers activities like surfing and boating, golfing, live theater, as well as historic tours. The Victorian-style resort Hotel Del Coronado, listed as a Historic Hotel of America, has been visited by presidents and royalty. Nearby, elegant Glorietta Bay Inn welcomes guests to its historic mansion, built in 1908 as the home of sugar baron John D. Spreckels. Coronado also has several theaters, fine-dining and unique boutiques. Ferries can transport visitors to Coronado, but the landing is too far from the main part of town for all but the hardiest walkers. The hop on-hop off trolley is a good way to get around town without driving and parking hassles.
