Cougar Vineyards & Winery
Make tracks to Cougar Vineyards & Winery, specializing in 100 percent estate-grown Italian varietals paired with picturesque views of Temecula Valley.
Cougar not only grows its own grapes, but also produces, bottles and stores its wine on its 17-acre property. The ground-to-glass operation features several varietals rarely found in the United States, as well as commonly recognized offerings such as Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio, Primitivo (Zinfandel), Vermentino and Arneis. Also savor Cougar’s sparkling wines.
Opened in 2006 by owners and veteran winemakers Rick and Jennifer Buffington, the vineyard’s label is named after Cougar Mountain near Bellevue, Wash., where the couple lived and made award-winning reds and whites before moving to Southern California. Today, their expansive hilltop winery in Temecula features a charming tasting room with a gift shop and live music from 5-8 p.m.Fridays and from 2-5 p.m. Sundays.
Savor Cougar’s handcrafted wines with fresh salads, sandwiches, hot paninis and pizzas from Sangio’s Deli, open daily 11 a.m.-6 p.m. (Fridays until 7 p.m.) Sangio’s also offers daily specials plus wines or beer by the glass — perfect palate-pleasers for lunch or dinner.
