Help San Diego’s Natural History Museum celebrate a milestone birthday with a festive block party!
The Nat Celebrates its 150th With a Free Community Event
The Big Birthday Block Party means free admission, family activities, live music, food, drinks, and more.
What: Help us spread the word about the San Diego Natural History Museum’s biggest birthday celebration yet—The Big Birthday Block Party on Saturday, October 19.
The Nat invites all members of the community to visit the Museum (for free!) and participate in activities offered by The Nat, neighboring institutions like Fleet Science Center and San Diego History Center, and partner nonprofits and environmental organizations.
At the event, there will be plenty of media opportunities and visuals, including: Mayor Todd Gloria’s proclamation and Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins’ resolution at the Museum’s south entrance (by the fountain); live music; a sneak peek into the brand-new Paleontology Center that includes scientists at work and exhibit prototypes; an exhibition featuring historic photos; a birthday hat scavenger hunt featuring museum “party animals”; and visitors engaging with scientists and community organizations.
Who: Museum interviews are available with Judy Gradwohl, President and CEO, and Ariel Hammond, Director of Research Library and Archives. To reserve an interview time, please contact Paula Sternberg at psternberg@sdnhm.org or 619.255.0220.
When: Saturday, October 19, 10 AM–3 PM. Proclamations and resolutions by elected officials will kick off the event at 9:30 AM.
Where: San Diego Natural History Museum, 1788 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101, Balboa Park. Activities will take place inside and outside the Museum.
Parking / Details: Parking will be scarce, so please arrive early. The Big Birthday Block Party will wrap around the outside of the Museum with vendors, community organizations, and fun activities. All indoor exhibits will be accessible to the public for free, including the all-ages rooftop bar.
Please approach the Museum by way of Park Blvd. to avoid other road closures; El Prado, Pan American Road, and Balboa South Dr. Loop will be closed from 6:30–10:30 AM for the Annual Walk to support the Alzheimer’s Association.
