AirShow San Diego to Soar Over Gillespie Field
June 7, 2014 - June 8, 2014

Mock battles and gravity-defying maneuvers including tumbles, loops, swoops flicks and rolls will again captivate crowds at AirShow San Diego (formerly known as “Wings Over Gillespie”), set for June 7-8, 2014, at Gillespie Field in El Cajon. The event will feature a representative collection of aircraft and acts to support the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of “D-Day,” the invasion of Normandy. The show headliner will be the “D-Day Doll,” a C-53 that actually flew three missions in the invasion.
Back by popular demand will be John Collver’s War Dog T6/SNJ aerobatics. Other historic aircraft will be flying and on ground display in addition to military re-enactors, paratroopers, and a mock battle with “Pyro.” Also, don’t miss the Smoke-N-Thunder Jet Car as it races a WWII Warbird!
Friday, June 6, is a free youth Education Day with a focus on aviation-related Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (A-STEM). This “A-STEM” day is presented by Air Group One. There will be no scheduled air show flying on Education Day.
Saturday will also will feature an afternoon and evening of 1940s costume dancing under the stars with 1940s, ’50s and ’60s music. Come dressed in your best 1940s attire and dance in the AirShow San Diego Dance contest!
AirShow San Diego is a once-a-year family event with a free Kid’s Zone and free parking. Amusements, rides, education displays, a variety of food and beverages, plus a Beer Garden sponsored by Hangar 24 Craft Brewery will add up to a great summer weekend for all.
The show will run both days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/CAFSanDiegoAirGroupOne
