As a shining star and one of the first culinary destinations on the South O scene, The Privateer Coal Fire Pizza uses only 100% coal fire, no gas, for their crisp Neapolitan-style pizzas, coal fire wings, baked pastas and more. Coal fire is the secret to their recipes and at a temperature of 850-to-900°F, the oven cooks delicious Neapolitan-style pizzas in three to four minutes. This leaves the pizza crust thin and crisp on the outside, allowing the inside of the pizza to be elastic so all that chewy goodness melts in your mouth. The oven takes 2 hrs. to heat up every morning and they then add dried oak to stoke the fire, along with 100% Pennsylvania coal that creates the magic.
The gourmet menu, using locally sourced ingredients also offers an array of appetizers, salads, soups, specialty dishes and desserts all made fresh from scratch using organic greens, spices, veggies & herbs grown locally in support of fellow Oceanside businesses.
Over the past few years as Oceanside continued to mature into the So Cal city to watch, the owners opened The Privateer Marketplace & Wine Bar, filling a gap and adding something very unique to the growing culinary scene in South O, as well as a lot more seating and style to The Privateer locations. Just adjacent to The Privateer Coal Fire Pizza, The Marketplace & Wine Bar offers an outstanding private-label wine selection, small bites & desserts as well as the entire menu from the restaurant.
With event space perfect for live music, comedy, wine dinners and more, the wine bar is the place to eat, drink and socialize in a relaxed setting unique to South “O” and the result of two locals living their dream of opening a seaside restaurant and doing it their “literally fresh” way.
