The San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) is a premier organization showcasing artists from the Southern California/Baja Norte region. Their mission is to broaden and continue the support of the visual arts through exhibition, education, and outreach. Their ongoing dedication is to provide a wide range of innovative programs that respond to the needs of their communities, and by forging partnerships with the local and global communities.
SDAI offers an array of programs including exhibitions, lectures, tours, educational programs and an Artist-in-Residence Program and currently operates out of an 8,000 sq. ft. exhibition space in Balboa Park. In addition to critical exhibitions of local contemporary art, they also acknowledge and showcase work by youth in their Young Artist Gallery. Their rotating exhibition series is curated or juried by internationally recognized curators and focuses on regional artists from the Southern California/Baja Norte region. We also host two monthly solo artist exhibitions, as well as exhibitions in our new media project space.
San Diego Art Institute’s Artist-in-Residence Program provides artists with a 200 sq. ft. studio space, and solo show opportunities in both Balboa Park and North Park. Artists working in all media and at any stages of their career are welcome to apply for an approximate 3 month residency when applications are available.
San Diego Art Institute’s Curator-in-Residence Program provides curators with a 150 sq. ft. studio space at our in North Park location allowing 24-hour access. During the course of the residency, we will arrange for the curator to conduct studio visits with local artists, and will ask the curator to participate in the monthly “Ray at Night” program each second Saturday of the month. Curators working in all media and at any stages of their career are welcome to apply for an approximate 3 month residency when applications are available.
